A small explosive device went off in an administration building at Florida A&M University yesterday 10 minutes after a warning was called in, but no one was injured and the damage was minor

Police evacuated several buildings on hte campus on the second day of classes to make sure that there were no other explosive devices.  Nothing had been found as of late afternoon 8-30-99 FAMU police Lt. Vandon Jones said

Lee Hall was being evacuated when the device exploded in the first floor men's room.  About 100 people work in the building.

FBI  agents said that they couldn't say whetherthe device was a small bomb or some sort of a fire cracker, only that the resulting blast did not do much damage.

FAMU President Frederick Humphries, whose office is on Lee's Hall fourth floor, was in hte building when the deviccce went off.

"It was like a POOF" said Humphries.  "It didn't do any damage, it wasn't even as powerful as a firecracker."

Someone called television station WTXL in Tallahassee and warned that he had just put "a bomb" in the building.

Niether the police Nor the FBI would say whether anyone had been arrested.  Simply calling in a bomb threat  could be a felony, regardless of what the device was the FBI said
